Laboratory

Our world-class Pathology Laboratories in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac serves the majority of the population of the Cayman Islands. They are operated by a highly qualified and committed team of specialists and support staff. We conduct a wide variety of tests including microbiology (bacteriology, parasitology and virology), histology, cytology, haematology, clinical chemistry and immunohaematology.
Phlebotomy
Our Phlebotomy team collects blood samples for the purpose of medical testing to help determine disease diagnosis and management. All our phlebotomy services are walk-in only.
Our Phlebotomy service is available at two locations to serve you.
- George Town Hospital, 95 Hospital Road
- Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM
- Saturday, 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM
- Sunday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon
- Smith Road Medical Centre, 2nd Floor, General Practice Clinic, 150 Smith Road
- Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Patients can obtain their test results from their physicians who requested the tests, from their Patient Portal or the Medical Records Department of the HSA. Phlebotomy does not directly send results to patients.
Blood Bank
Transfusion of blood and blood products helps save millions of lives every year.
The Cayman Islands Blood Blank, which operates from the George Town Hospital, provides patients access to safe blood and blood products, which is a key component of an effective health system. An adequate supply can only be ensured through regular donations by voluntary, unpaid blood donors.
How to donate blood?
Persons must be eligible to donate blood. Book an appointment with us through our website bloodbank.ky or call 244-2674. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Blood Bank Opening hours
- Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 6:30 PM
- Saturday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Blood Bank is closed on Sundays and Public Holidays
Apheresis (platelet donation) is also offered at the Blood Bank. This enables us to collect platelets from our blood donors. This is a huge advantage for our patients in need of platelets transfusion as we no longer need to have platelets flown in from overseas.
