Psychiatrist (Forensic)

The Forensic Psychiatrist will be required to provide psychiatric expertise and leadership to the Cayman Islands Government Health Service. The candidate will provide expert care to individuals interfacing with the law and experiencing psychological or psychiatric symptoms. To provide high quality assessments, diagnoses, treatment planning and review in the care of service users.

Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be required to manage persons within the prisons and conduct forensic evaluations for patients referred by the judicial system, Royal Cayman Islands Police Services (RCIPS), other forensic and allied services. To provide expert reports to the court or where applicable and facilitate detailed psychiatric evaluations as required. The candidate will provide psychiatric support to Caribbean Haven, a non-health service 14 bedded drug and alcohol dependency facility, with regard to medical detox. To develop, along with colleagues, evidence-based guidelines and care pathways relevant to forensic psychiatry. Provide psychiatry service to Faith Hospital on an emergency duty basis. To provide 24- hour on-call service as schedule on the monthly roster.

Qualification & Experience: The successful candidate must have a primary medical qualification as well as a recognized post graduate qualification with a minimum of four (4) years’ training in Psychiatry and relevant experience in the subspecialty of forensic psychiatry. Must have subspecialty training in Forensic Psychiatry. Must be eligible to acquire registration to practice in the Cayman Islands. Must have current license in one of the seven recognized jurisdictions: New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, USA, Canada, Jamaica or United Kingdom.
