As part of the event, the public will have access to free screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar, urine test (optional), weight and height. A physician and dietitian will be available on-site to review any abnormal results and provide guidance on kidney health.
This year’s World Kidney Day theme is: “Are Your Kidneys OK? Detect Early, Protect Kidney Health.”
Dialysis Nurse Manager Erlin McLeod emphasised the importance of expanding access to screenings across the Cayman Islands:
“Many people don’t realise they have kidney disease until it’s too late. That’s why early detection is so important. This year, we wanted to bring our annual health screenings to a district outside of George Town, giving more residents the opportunity to check their health status. Since we are working on expanding dialysis services to the West Bay Health Centre, it was a natural choice. However, we plan to visit a new district each year, and we invite everyone to take advantage of this free service and ensure their kidney health is protected.”
