The acquisition forms part of the HSA’s commitment to improve patient safety and comfort and further facilitates the strategic expansion and modernisation at the George Town Hospital.

HSA’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dr. Vinton Douglas noted that the acquisition aims at “providing sustainable and resilient equipment to meet patient service needs, improve patient experience and safety. This modernisation also aligns HSA clinical practices with international best practices, including Joint Commission International standards.”

The acquisition will benefit in-patient units throughout the George Town Hospital and Faith Hospital.

Hospital Bed Donation 2

The new beds which offer fall, pressure injury and hospital-acquired infection prevention are an upgrade of the beds they replace. “The beds we have donated are still useful, of good quality and will provide great help to the beneficiaries who are members of the vulnerable community,” noted Dr. Douglas.

Highlighting the need to support members of the vulnerable community, HSA’s Chairman Osbourne Bodden indicated, “The Pines and DCFS fulfil a critical social function and are deserving of our support. Our demonstration of goodwill will go a long way in administering care to members of our community outside of the hospital setting, ensuring that their environment is one of comfort, promotes recovery and safety for the patient and caregiver.”

Rayle Roberts, Deputy Director at the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) stated, “The donation of medical beds will address the critical need for upgraded facilities in our residential homes, improving both the comfort of residents and the functionality for staff. The donated medical beds will significantly improve the living conditions within the homes, offering enhanced comfort and support for residents who may spend extended periods in bed.”

He continued: “This donation not only improves the operational capabilities of DCFS but also strengthens our relationship with the community. It enhances the care we provide to vulnerable individuals, reinforces community trust and collaboration, and underscores our commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. Through this act of generosity, we are better positioned to fulfil our mission of care, compassion, and community service.”

The Pines Retirement Home’s CEO, Lynda Mitchell, expressed her delight in the continued partnership with HSA by outlining, “We are so blessed to have an organisation such as the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority that supports our mission for the care of older persons in the Cayman Islands. Our longstanding partnership with HSA is unwavering. On behalf of our board of directors, residents, and staff, we are most grateful for the kind and generous donation of eight hospital beds from HSA. Thanks to HSA management and staff for their continued support of our efforts and for understanding our need as a non-profit organisation”.

The delivery of beds was supported by the Public Works Department.
